April is on its way out and Earth Day has come and gone. But helping our planet doesn’t have to be a one-day event. Celebrating Earth Day can be everyday! With our hectic schedules it can be hard to make huge changes, but there are little things every family can do to make a big difference. Showing your kids that helping the Earth is important everyday is a wonderful lesson.

Now that the weather is getting warmer hang your clothes out to dry instead of using the dryer. You’ll save energy and your clothes will smell fresh and breezy!

Another great Earth friendly habit to adopt in the warm weather is limiting your use of air conditioning. Throw open the windows and install and screen door to keep you cool!

Take advantage of your local farmers market. Food grown locally is the best for you and the planet.

Lighting can account for up to 15% of energy use in your home. Switch to CFL light bulbs which are energy efficient and last longer than your average bulb!

Turn off the lights when you leave a room and unplug appliances and electronics when not in use. These are simple changes in routine that can make a big difference.

Avoid pesticides when working on your lawn. They aren’t good for your family or the Earth!

Don’t water your grass everyday. It can be tempting to turn on the sprinkler to help make your grass green but it’s a huge waste of water. A green lawn isn’t worth the water usage.

Turn the water off while brushing your teeth to also help save water.

Use reusable water bottles and skip the plastic ones. There are plenty of cute eco-friendly water bottles out there!

If every family made simple changes to their everyday habits we could really help the planet!
