We all have those days where everything seems to be in chaos. Parents are expert multitaskers but taking on all that responsibility can be stressful. It can seem like the to-do list is never ending and you don’t have a minute to relax. But it’s important to take the time to de-stress and have a moment of calm to yourself. Even if it’s only for a few minutes it can make a world of a difference in how you approach your day. There are plenty of natural ways to help yourself relax and get back into the groove.

Take a moment to breathe. If you’re sitting in the car waiting to pick up your kids practice some breathing techniques. Focus on your breath, inhale through your mouth and hold it for 3 seconds, then let it out your nose. You can slow your heart rate and calm yourself with this simple act.

Take a walk. Nature is an excellent relaxant and so is exercise. Combine the two with a quiet walk. Go for a walk after dropping the kids off at school or sports. Hire a babysitter for an hour on the weekend and go for a walk with your partner. It can be a great time to catch up and spend alone time.

Take a bath. After the kids have gone to sleep make yourself a nice warm bath. Read a book or simply close your eyes and take some time for yourself. Afterwards try some lotion with lavender in it. The flower has relaxing properties to it. Also try geranium or vanilla.

Try yoga. If you’re looking for a new exercise experience yoga can be a great option. It encourages you to mentally focus and be in the moment. Try out a beginners class in your area with a friend. Or buy some instructional DVDs and try at home while the baby naps.

Life can be overwhelming sometimes and taking some time for yourself can help you face your daily challenges.
